What the checker looks for
The checker follows the international (US) screenplay standard that producers, agents and screenwriting competitions expect. It reports two kinds of findings: errors break industry format and are the things a reader notices on page one; suggestions are within format but make the script harder to read.
- Scene headings: capitals, a period after INT. or EXT., and the time of day after a dash (DAY, NIGHT, CONTINUOUS).
- Character names: in capitals above dialogue, one name per character, and in capitals the first time they appear in action.
- Extensions: correctly written (V.O.), (O.S.) and (CONT'D).
- Parentheticals: short directions of a few words, with no period at the end.
- Action and dialogue: overlong paragraphs and speeches, camera directions (WE SEE, CLOSE ON) and numerals in dialogue.
- Transitions: a colon at the end (CUT TO:) and not used more than needed.

Frequently asked questions
Is my screenplay uploaded anywhere?
No. The checker runs entirely in your browser. The text you paste stays on your device; no one can see it and it isn't saved anywhere.
Can I check my Final Draft script?
Yes. Open your script in Final Draft, select and copy the text, and paste it here. The formatting doesn't need to come with it; the checker recognizes each element from the layout of the lines.
Is a "suggestion" an error?
No. Suggestions are within format; they only point to places that may slow a reader down. A long action paragraph is sometimes a deliberate choice. The call is yours.
Does it check scripts written in other languages?
Yes. It recognizes scene headings with local abbreviations too, such as INT./EXT. equivalents in other languages. A few suggestions, such as camera directions, currently work on English text only.
